The following represents my current body of work. It may seem a bit eclectic at times, but I see it as a rather rounded approach to understanding and designing for people. People like you and me who crave information and don't want anything holding it up, hiding it, or overly complicating it. It can be pretty or even fun just as long as you give it to us straight.

You can also take a look at my résumé if you are so inclined.

Ann Arbor Rotary Club

Overview

The Rotary Club of Ann Arbor is a local chapter of Rotary International, which works with the community on a number of projects fostering quality of life, cooperation, and understanding. Wishing to update their online presence as well as member features, the Club has commissioned me to redesign the visual interface as well as migrate it to the open-source, content management platform, Drupal.

Project Goals

  • Design a contemporary and standards-based visual interface that represents the vision and identity of the Rotary Club.
  • Restructure the navigation and organization of the website to be more accessible and friendly.
  • Migrate to the Drupal platform for better content management and to support distributed responsibilities among members.
  • Allow for the weekly newsletter, The Harpoon, to be easily assembled using website content.

Status

The redesign of the website is currently in production and is expected to be launched later this year.

Liza Moraitis Photography

Overview

Liza Moraitis is a commercial photographer based in Chicago, Illinois. Liza has a unique and gifted eye for capturing details and revealing the beauty in everyday objects. In keeping with her style and personality, I have collaborated with her on two occasions to produce an online portfolio of her professional, photographic work. The first design was launched in 2004 and in 2007 the website was updated to reflect her growing body of work. The new design concept is centered around showcasing her images and letting the other details of the website recede into the background.

Overview

Jenn Harp is a SAG actress based in Los Angeles, California. I worked with Jenn in 2006 to produce a website promoting her work as an actress as well as providing online access to her résumé and headshots for casting directors and talent agencies. The website also allows Jenn the opportunity to share news and events through a personalized blog.

Kaya Day Spa

Overview

Kaya Day Spa, located in Chicago’s West Loop, is a full-service day spa offering unique and luxurious treatments. I have worked with Kaya both on the maintenance of their website as well as the production of email campaigns. The campaigns are designed to promote new services, upcoming events, and new arrivals to their boutique. Each campaign is customized to the promotion and coinciding event, holiday, or season. Subscriptions to the campaigns have steadily increased since they began in 2006 and click-through rates have consistently proven to be higher than average.

Archives of Michigan

Overview

Over the past two summers I have worked at the Archives of Michigan on a few different projects. One of which, the Untitled Prison Project, warrants it’s own entry.

Additionally, I have worked to digitize portions of the Doug Elbinger photographic collection. Elbinger has photographed politicians, artists, musicians, and events in the state of Michigan for nearly four decades. Currently, selections of his work are scheduled to be featured in an exhibit on Michigan politics, which is set to coincide with the 2008 Presidential elections. In managing this collection, I produced digital contact sheets, high resolution scans and derivatives of selected works, applied metadata, and created a naming convention and management scheme.

Lastly, I customized the design interface of the Archives digital collections website. The website is built on the CONTENTdm content management system platform, which is largely PHP and database driven. In order to provide a more unique experience as well as represent the personality and value of the Archives, I created an interface that incorporated aspects of the Archives collection while maintaining the infrastructure and functionality provided by CONTENTdm.
